Nowadays, it is necessary to continue thinking about childhood and adolescence from the different questions and issues that emerge in these stages of human development, stages that are linked to a particular history, which precedes and inscribes the subject in a singular world of his or her own. In this way, the relevance of the maternal function over the years and how it has diverged with nuances depending on the era, which designate what it means to be a mother, to be a woman and her function in the life of a child and the historical moment in which the child arrives in the real world. The present work developed calls for a reflection from Psychoanalysis on the question of what is a mother and her function, and more specifically, in adolescence in relation to the case called Young D. Recognising that a child needs a primordial Other who welcomes him and humanises him in the earliest moments of his existence, an Other who in the right measure will contribute positively or negatively to the psychic constitution of the child. Indeed, maternal desire cannot be anonymous, because if it is not particularised, mother-child experiences can generate havoc.
