Autorenporträt
A native to the East Coast, Lisa Weckbacher grew up with a love for books and animals from an early age. She holds three master's degrees as well as a Ph.D. in education, specialization in child and adolescent development, from UC Santa Barbara. Lisa has served as an adjunct professor in psychology and education at various universities for more than a decade. To date, she has also published several works pertaining to the role of spatial thinking in childhood and adolescence. The implications of her research are largely related to how educators can help prepare K-12 students to pursue and ultimately succeed in STEM-oriented careers. Lisa divides her time between Southern California and Western Montana with her family, and of course, their many feathered and furry friends. Gabriela Vega is a proud Latina children's book illustrator from Southern California and a recent graduate from Cal State Fullerton, where she obtained her BFA in illustration. From a young age, her passion for art began with her love for picture books and animated films. She has won two awards from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and was selected as a mentee for the 2022 WNDB Mentorship Program. In addition, Gabriela is one of 43 artists (out of 640 applicants) who was recently accepted into the 2023 Scholastic Art Mentorship Program.
