Frank Westall was born in the Heads of the Valleys town of Brynmawr, South Wales in 1949. He was a frequent 'mutcher' during the latter part of his secondary education and left school as soon as he was able. His first job at Ebbw Vale Steelworks Hot Mill was followed by different jobs nearly every five years and of these he particularly enjoyed bus conducting and bus driving because of the people he worked with and the people he met. Throughout the various jobs he held, Frank set about filling in the gaps of his misspent schooling via correspondence and further education courses. In 1995 he obtained a First Class Honours Bachelor of Education Degree and was awarded the NUT Stuart Clarke Prize for Outstanding Performance. He spent the last twenty years of his working life as a Primary School Teacher. Frank's writing of poetry began in the 1960s and has vastly increased since his retirement. His poems reflect his love of life, sense of humour and Christian beliefs.
