He had spent his whole life as a prince and then became king and he felt he had missed out on an ordinary life. He decides to disguise himself and get out of the castle; he gets to know his people, do some good work and help them; everyone thinks he is a very kind man called Alf.

Rev. Janice Bowker is an English vicar [ordained church minister], who now lives and works in Florida, USA. This children's chapter book is set in a fictional British kingdom called Merryweather, with King Alfred and Queen Rosamund; they live an idyllic life in the country that they rule.
