H.G. Hawk had a troubled youth. He ran afoul of the law on numerous occasions. Throughout this tumultuous time in his life, his father stuck by him, always encouraging H.G. to do better and to get an education. When his father passed away, H. G. honored his wishes by putting himself through college, earning a B.A. in English from SUNY Empire State College.
