This book is a memoir of a walking pilgrimage from Barcelona, Spain to Rome, Italy during the summer of 2014. The author primarily walked the network of Gran Route trails through Catalunya, the Via Domitia through France, and finally the Via Francigena from Vercelli, Italy to Rome. More than a travelogue, the author recounts memories and thoughts concerning culture, history, war, food, religion, spirituality, and countless other thoughts that occupy an idle mind over a 1,200-mile stroll through southern Europe.

Autorenporträt
DeMar Southard is a writer and editor with an addiction to long distance walks. He is also addicted to flamenco music and dance and would do virtually anything to be able to live and work in Spain. Ah, of such things dreams are made. God willin' and the creek don't rise, someday it will happen. DeMar has two children -- Austin who is a chef in Oslo, Norway and Angela who has recently completed a master's degree in counseling and, for some odd reason, has decided to remain in the United States with her husband, Ian, and their dog, Henry.
