As chief, he faced many challenges. This kind, intelligent man proved to be the right choice since he had the welfare of his people paramount in his mind. This is also a gripping tale of misplaced revenge against White Fox by Broken Face, a fierce warrior of the Tree People. His obsession ended the lives of many warriors. Worry over a demented enemy would have been sufficient to age a seasoned chief but to make things worse White Fox's spirit helper sent a message warning him of a dangerous and seemingly demonic pack of wolves invading the Dakota hunting grounds. The wolves were killing indiscriminately and their evil sport was not restricted to animals.
