Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Eliyahu (a.k.a. Eli) attended the local Jewish day school, Epstein Hebrew Academy, from preschool through junior high school. From there he traveled to Baltimore, Maryland, where he studied in Ner Israel high school. After graduating high school, he went to Israel for advanced Talmudic studies. Eventually, he made Israel his home, where he lives today with his wife and four children.
