After being sexually assaulted at 4, Angelia Robinson grew up with an identity crisis so acute that she didn't even know how to properly spell her name until she was 12. Her autobiography WHO R U? describes a middle-class broken little girl from Maryland who is transformed over the course of 48 years and nearly 200 pages into a fearless woman who would be used to help transform the world. A devout belief in God helped her to realize she had a higher purpose to fulfill. But beyond being a wife and mother, Robinson couldn't envision what that destiny might be. She had always, throughout her life, been pushed into a position of standing out, of shining, of leadership, because people gravitated toward her. She understood that she was one of God's messengers (which is the literal meaning of her first name). She had also been a recording artist and a damned good one. Yet there she was at age 42, just coming out of an unhappy 16-year marriage, recently evicted from her home, living paycheck to paycheck working at a call center doing telemarketing, with a newborn - and miserable. This wasn't how her story was supposed to go. It was time for her to turn around the narrative. Bubbly and gregarious despite absorbing one punch after another from life, she took the advice of an old friend and started selling bedroom accessories and other enhancement products at in-home parties, like Tupperware but for couples. Within a few years, she became a superstar in direct sales, earning more money than she'd ever seen in her life and standing out as someone her fellow saleswomen looked up to. Suddenly, a woman who had numerous brushes with death and could never find her path and passion was a senior executive director and a professional everyone held up as an example of the right way to do things. Angelia Robinson survived until the miracle happened. Now she lives her life in a state of bliss. The rejection and betrayal that she experienced time and time again could have made her heart turn cold. Instead, it left her determined to bring her existence greater meaning and purpose. She believes that she suffered so that readers of her autobiography WHO R U? won't have to. They can look at their own life and, through the power of her example, understand that it's never too late to be who or what you might have been.
Autorenporträt
Angelia Robinson was born in Washington, D.C., but grew up in the Maryland suburbs. In and out of the church throughout her youth, Angelia (pronounced An-Juh-Lie) reacted like a sponge to all types of music during a time where she felt music was not as segregated. With God's divine intervention, she created a style, a new sound that influenced a whole new generation. The name Angelia is Greek and means Messenger of God. Angelia wanted the message in her music, which she simply called Life Music, to be heard and embraced regardless of how it was labeled. The concept of her debut CD entitled Lessons In Love - released back in 2009 - came from her life story. Angelia has shared the stage with gospel greats such as Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, Hezekiah Walker, and Donnie McClurkin, to name just a few. Also in 2009, Angelia's song Wishing You Were Here was selected to be a part of the music compilation distributed by Cloud Ten Pictures for the movie Saving God, starring Ving Rhames. In addition, she garnered an explosive performance on the history-making Urban Gospel Showcase during the kickoff of the 25th Annual Stellar Awards. This former singer/songwriter, media personality, and now author is back on the scene capturing the hearts of millions with her fun-loving spirit, gregarious personality, and fierce business savvy through her Pure Romance business. The message that I have always wanted to send through my music and work in the media is now being shared through my work as an intimacy coach, motivational speaker, and through my soon-to-be-released autobiography Who R U?: Tales of A Survivor, Angelia says. That message is simple. Give until you can't give anymore and lead with love, as love covers a multitude of mistakes and conquers all. Angelia has sacrificed to get here and suffered a lot of heartache along the way. Now a mother of five, she uses her life experiences to help strengthen and empower others. It's been a long road for Angelia, but it's her boldness, tenacity, and courage that keep this fiery woman on a huge path to success no matter what field she is working in. Angelia simply comes into a situation and dominates every single time. A self-described workaholic, Angelia can sometimes be intense but loves to have a good time. She is passionate about any work she puts her hands to but especially when it comes to empowering women. She says, I want to be an example for women who grew up in less than favorable situations because it's enormously tough growing up devoid of love and stability while trying to do something positive. I want to show them that with Christ, hope, and faith, going after your dreams can lead to endless possibilities. Last but certainly not least, Angelia is quite the humanitarian as she serves as an ambassador for various human sex trafficking organizations in the United States. She vows to make a huge positive impact not only in her community but the entire world. Ready or not, she promises, here I come!
