In the later years of our lives, my wife and I were sitting in our rocking chairs on the front porch enjoying the cool breeze, and she asked me, "Who settled Edisto Island way back then"? I turned to her and said, "What a great reason for doing this research and publishing the result for many to see." This got me thinking. Who were the individuals who had the spark that started all this, and what part did these individuals play in bringing it about? I needed to keep in mind that the American Indians occupied Edisto Island for a time untold, and the English just came in and took Edisto Island for themselves with very little compensation to the locals. >Since all this did not happen overnight, I thought this story should include several generations. In this case, the sequence will include the English monarchs who played a part in starting all this. Some played a large part, and some were just in the line of what happened. Therefore, find yourself a rocking chair and see what I found. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Oh, my wife, Joyce Hills Lybrand, edited this by cleaning up some of my poor English and grammar. Keep in mind that I was 87 years old when I began this project and sometimes forgot what I had for breakfast.
