Jess Mize was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She grew up in a rural area where she loved to ride horses and listen to her mother, Garland, read Stephen King stories. She began writing poetry at the age of seventeen when she first read the Illuminations of Arthur Rimbaud. At present, she spends her time taking care of her daughters, Sophia Pompeii and Libby Leagones, and composing poetry whenever the muse inspires her.
