The study of the War of the Pacific has generated an important number of publications, being perhaps, one of the most extensive and varied bibliographies of the Chilean historiography, composed by thousands of articles, monographs, essays, chronicles, campaign diaries and novels; beginning with its deepest and most distant origins in time, the nearby causes, the triggers of the conflict, up to an extensive diversity and quantity of studies on the different campaigns of the war, the great battles, the illustrious officers of the Army and Navy, including all the combat actions both terrestrial and maritime; and some of which we are responsible for.But it is curious to note that there are no current publications that answer the question we present here: Why did Chile obtain the victory in the War of the Pacific? This is a question that may seem simple, even banal; so it can be answered in the same way: "because Chile was better". But this would be too simplistic an answer to a question that has been haunting the memory of generations of historians, politicians and military men for a long time.
