Why does one decide to leave everything they've always known behind? How does it feel to seek belonging in a land you still don't know, from people you don't yet understand? Is it even possible to belong anywhere at all when one chooses to become an immigrant? These are the answers the author seeks, through the recollection and reflection upon several stories that link her birthplace, the sunny city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and her chosen home in Germany, the cosmopolitan and moody Berlin.

Autorenporträt
Giulia Kollmann has been plagued by a lifelong identity crisis that turns the exercise of producing a biography rather inconclusive. She has three citizenships, and is repeatedly accused of a poor performance of all her nationalities. She was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a place she loves but where she never quite belonged, and currently lives in Berlin, Germany, a city she chose partially for being an outsider in its own country, much like herself. She has been passionate about writing ever since she broke her front tooth on the same day she was gifted her first diary notebook; how serendipitous, her 6-year-old self thought, that she was given a story to tell on the same day she was given the means to tell it.
