The author, Burton Bernard, has been successful in a variety of business and personal ventures. None of which prepared him for writing a book for children. However, Burt never starts a project that is not carefully planned in every detail. He is confident that his new book Wiggle Your Nose - Wiggle Your Toes will bring joy to many children and become a rewarding venture. Burt was born and raised in Chicago's inner city. At the age of twelve, he was awarded a scholarship to the Art Institute in Chicago. At the age of sixteen, he had a paper route for a daily afternoon paper. Burt liked to sleep late but the Sunday issue had to be delivered early Sunday morning. Burt hired a friend to deliver the Sunday paper while he slept. At the age of eighteen, Burt won Gold and Bronze Medals at the Central AAU Swim Meet; was the youngest player on a National Water polo Team; and as a lifeguard, saved a cow from drowning in Lake Michigan. >That summer Burt took a series of tests offered by the U.S. Navy to determine where potential recruits could best serve. Burt scored high on the administrative and technical tests. He selected a rank that would guarantee him 44 weeks (five 8-hour days per week) of schooling in electronics, optics and computers plus another 6 weeks of specialized teaching of onboard gun-fire-control equipment. >After leaving the Navy, Burt started work at a small company that developed infrared instruments for scientific and medical research. As Burt learned more about the potential of infrared instrumentation, he started writing articles for technical and industrial magazines. His plan was that each article would be a chapter in a book that he would eventually write. After eleven articles, Burt wrote the book, ABC's of Infrared. He also has a U.S. Patent for a Temperature Control Technique using an infrared radiometer. A Fortune 100 Company hired Burt to establish a new department in Silicon Valley to develop commercial laser products using previously classified information. New products were created, but Burt left after three years of corporate red tape. Burt was now prepared and destined to be an entrepreneur. With $2,000, Burt founded a multi-million-dollar laser corporation. He was Chairman and CEO for fourteen years. >Burt has been supporting several non-profit organizations. He was a Director and President of the Laser Institute of America; President of San Francisco Theatre Guild; Director and Finance Chair of Access Sacramento and Director and Finance Chair of the Strauss Festival of Elk Grove. Burt and his wife, Raquel, have been married for over 45 years. They are a perfect match. They are inseparable (except during any sporting event between Chicago and San Francisco). They enjoy family gatherings with their five children, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Burt and Raquel love to travel. They have been to 48 countries. Burt has now completed his first children's book. He has enjoyed the experience and is already working on the next children's book. Then maybe one for adults?
