Phytochemical analysis was also done in both plants.The work presented in the thesis is significant in understanding the mechanism involved in salt tolerance which include morphological, enzymatic, biochemical changes and changes in phytochemical content. Both plants at high salt concentration synthesize more osmolytes, activate the ROS machinery and also enhance phytochemicals like flavonoid, alkaloid and carotenoid content in order to cope with stress. These bioactive compounds may be useful to protect the plant from the adverse effects of stress.
