William Auld is regarded by many as the most outstanding literary luminary writing in Esperanto. His chief work is La infana raso ("The Infant Race"), a long poem of 25 chapters on the theme of "the role of the human race in time and the universe" (The Editors). This is essentially the same theme as that of Ezra Pound's Cantos and Pablo Naruda's Canto General. In the present publication the translator provides versions of La infana raso in the three languages spoken in Auld's homeland of Scotland, namely English, Scots and Gaelic. Auld was three times nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature.
