Willow is a book for a kid who might sometimes feel like an outsider and wants to be brave. It is the story of a sensitive little girl who wears a feathered mask that she feels gives herself a bit of protection to live in this big, sometimes scary, world. Unable to save a helpless pigeon one school day, she finds herself on a magical and sometimes frustrating journey through a strange forest where she gains advice and insight from the various animals she meets. Not only do the animal guides give her kind words, but they also leave her with special healing stones to carry with her on her journey. Everyone wears a mask, and it's time we feel safe enough to take it off and be accepted and loved for who we are, deep down inside. "Sometimes all you need is a talk, a thought, and a talisman. To get through the day. To get through life. You've got this!"
Autorenporträt
Jaymi Guess is a highly-sensitive dreamer, writer, pop culture fanatic with a fascination for humanity and the origins of things. Living authentically and honestly is everything to her. Willow was conceived when Jaymi took a Mythology class as an elective one summer at Academy of Art University while earning her Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising. She was inspired to write her very own children's myth. A lover of words and storytelling since childhood, she loves the confusing adventures of Alice in Lewis Carrol's books, the fun repetitive words used in Dr. Seuss books, and the magical storytelling of L. Frank Baum. The many Oz books will always be Jaymi's go-to for inspiration. She loves being able to create and imagine a dream world in her head simply using words, and eventual illustrations. As a highly sensitive INFJ with two daughters (each with their own degrees of sensitivity), Jaymi feels as though she (unconsciously) puts on a mask when she leaves her home to get through day-to-day life. A mask to fit in. A mask to feel safe. A mask to blend in with society and its expectations. She wants not only her kids, but every other little boy or girl ( or even adult!), to know that there is nothing wrong with being sensitive and/or different. Sometimes we just need a charm (or talisman) to help show us that we got this. We can turn our societal weakness into a strength! Her dream is to see a world where everyone can be 100% authentically themself without fear!
