This classic study deals with characteristics of wind induced surface gravity waves in the North Indian Ocean. The author has established 60 years wind-wave climate implementing wave model 3g-WAM. Experiments are presented for monsoon periods using IRS-P4 satellite (Oceansat1) analysed wind fields. The performance of the wave model is evaluated by extensive validation with sea-state observations. Potential applications of simulated sea-state information for Research, Civilian and Defence sector are demonstrated with several practical case studies.
