Once in a great while a writer comes upon the evangelical world with what initially appears as standard commentary designed to turn hearts into vibrant Christians living in a world spinning out of control, this is what I was expecting-but boy was I wrong. Vladimir Mysin has taken the Word of God to a whole new level of understanding for believers seeking to go deeper into Christ while sharing the Good News to all around them. Every chapter of this text amplifies the Person and Work-the very character of Christ and what it means to be a true follower of the Lamb. The titles in his Table of Contents are simple but as you get into these chapters these brevities become utterly profound. I thought I knew what blessing meant, what worry involved, how patience is reflected in a believer's life, how forgiveness and humility operate among Christians, how we are to "treasure" from God's point of view . . . indeed, issues like obedience, legalism, giving place to the enemy of our souls, and so much more; but little did I know that I would be blown away by the depth of what I read. Frankly, this is no light weight reading-but its style is so generous that you can't stop reading each section because one nugget after another is gained whereby your walk will become so much richer with Christ as the Holy Spirit brings to life the letters on these pages. I was doubly interested in Windows of Heaven...Road Signs for Destiny because this text is written by a Slavic brother living between two worlds and now leading a half-century's ministry to the Slavic peoples of the earth, as well as outreach to Pakistan from America. He communicates in his original language, Russian, so English is naturally different, which makes this work unique. You hear it in Russian but in English-if you can follow my drift. Secondly, you're moving into the present emigrant community of Russian-speaking/Ukrainian-speaking peoples . . . so it is written from their perspective demonstrating the love of God as experienced by those who have had to move from a more restrictive "religious environment" to one that boasts of its proliferation of Christian diversity but one which, in the main, has not had to endure that restriction. In sum, I highly commend this read-it's intensely subjective. It will bother you, and if it doesn't, then there's something amiss-but not with Mysin-don't take it personally but you should! The bar is set pretty high: "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect" (Matt. 5:48). You can't get much higher than that, but what does that look like? Ah, yes, that's where Vladimir brings it home. Jesus set the example and made all the statements beyond human ability to attain. That's why He initiated the New Covenant by the blood of the Everlasting Covenant. His commandments are not grievous-not difficult. We are to love as He loved and more so, by His very love worked into and out of our lives. These character traits Mysin reveals are steeped in the very Life of Christ living in and through us. Be prepared to read and reread this text. It is one of the most remarkable expositions of Scripture this writer (me) has ever read. I heartily recommend its contents-it is genuine and full of the reality of what a real Christian should live, both individually and corporately. May God bless this book to achieve its goal of presenting every man perfect in Christ.
