Autorenporträt
Sherwood Anderson, geb. 1876, siedelte als Kind mit seiner Familie nach Clyde, Ohio über, dem Vorbild für Winesburg, Ohio. Nach verschiedenen Aushilfsjobs in Chicago diente er eine Zeit lang bei der Armee. 1912 verließ er nach einem psychischen Zusammenbruch seine Familie, um eine schriftstellerische Laufbahn einzuschlagen. Sherwood Anderson starb am 8. März 1941 während einer Schiffsreise nach Südamerika.
