What made me fall in love with poetry was the potential for words to transform the mundane, to open the window of the soul, while voicing the universal experiences of all men and women. And though some silences should be left alone, there is a time to lend a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves: the trees, indigenous people, children, the burden of grief bared alone, and the boundlessness of love. My work not only reflects my view, but the influence of places I have known. I hope my voice is one simple, but universal and true sound.

J. E. Williams is an American acupuncture pioneer and integrative medicine physician, researcher, and writer. He is also an organic gardener, poet, and practitioner of tai chi and yoga, and has worked with indigenous people since 1967 to protect and preserve culture, environment, and intellectual rights. His current work with the Q'ero in the Peruvian Andes includes building projects, education, and community health. He divides his time between California, Florida, Cuba, and Peru teaching Earth-based wisdom and heart-centered spirituality and spends as much time in the high Andean wilderness and deep Amazonian rainforest as possible.
