These stories include cases of witchcraft from the dawn of time up to 1751 when Ruth Osborne, or the witch of Tring, was killed by a credulous mob. The work is divided into two sections, the witches of Scotland and the witches of England. The stories found within are the result of an extensive search by Linton, as well as researches from earlier writers. Much of the information used in this work was from rare tracts, many of which are no longer in existence.
