Gus Macaulay was born in Glasgow of a Hebridean father, Angus John from the island of North Uist and of his mother, Elizabeth Alice of Stirling, Central Scotland. Both he and his late brother, Norman, thrived upon and within this rich diversity of traditional and classical diversity. Being brought up as a policeman's son, he soon came across many other avenues of life. After a spell in corporate commerce, Gus was accepted into RAMSD Glasgow. Through this period of intense enlightenment, he found his way into the world of theatre, radio and television.
