As a reader, your first glance at the title of this book, may have led you into doing a combination of "deep sighing" with a few eyeball rolls. Perhaps, your first set of questions are, why women as the frontline soldier? What business have women got to do with being a soldier or in the army? Are we running out of capable men? Are men no more suited for this role? You are right to ask these questions especially given that we live in a patriarchal society (Africa in particular). As a woman, I must admit that it is extremely difficult to be a woman in an inherently sexist world. In my few years in the corporate world, I have had my own fair share of this world order so to say. This and other reason has filled me with so much foreboding even as I pondered on what our mothers went through, if in our current day and age, the struggle continuous so much just to be recognized and accorded the right to be a human being with rights just as everyone else. Hence, the reason why this book was birthed was to contribute to correcting this anomaly and to encourage the female folk that it will not be always like this, do not get used to or settle for the status quo.
