The presence of women as instructors in higher learning institutions play a major role in efforts to promote the education of women in Ethiopia. Women need to be present in colleges and universities to voice the needs and various programmes that affect women s life. When women possess the expertise required for effective decision making, are well represented in higher education institutions and are gender conscious, they have the power to shape policies and introduce change. Currently, however, few Ethiopian women possess this quality and very few are serving as university lecturers. The main reason for their less representation is generally due to their poor performance records during their undergraduate studies. Therefore, this text provides a glimpse of the issues and challenges of women in higher education institutions in Ethiopia.
