A large number of women workers are found in agriculture and their contribution to the rural economy is significant, yet they have not received adequate attention. Women in this sector encounter many difficulties because of their distressing and pitiable working conditions such as long working hours, low wages, inhuman treatment and gender discrimination. The present publication concentrates on the plight of the women workers in agriculture and rural development programmes, investigates the role of women, their migration problems, their status in the home and society and review different welfare programmes introduced by the Government of India and NGOs to ameliorate and change the lifestyles of women workers in Agriculture in India.
