This book presents the status of woman in Oromo society of Ethiopia. Section 1 introduces the study in general; that is description of the problem, significance of the study and the relative status of women to men. Chapter Two introduces the sociology of the proverbs: their creations, who uses them when. Chapter Three constructs themes out of the proverbs about the status, role, access to wealth, power, etc., of the women in relation to men. We corroborate the themes with other sociological studies. In Chapter 4, we give summaries of the study. We conclude the book by making suggestions that can redress the cultural imbalances reflected by the proverbs. In Section 2, we give some contrastive accounts of the poetic proverbs in comparison with the formal grammar of the language as well we give a list of proverbs in the Appendix.
