A Comprehensive Guide to The History of Women in Prison Facts and Figures, Human Rights, Legal Issues, Health, Family Matters, Future Directions for Research. The journey for this book has lasted many years. It began when I worked in a female prison in England. I became frustrated that with the lack of support and guidance. I was expected to help or intervene with women who were suffering from problems that I had never seen before. Feeling out of my depth, I left my job as a teacher of English with regret. On the day I walked out of the prison, through the largest gate I have ever seen in my life, I promised myself never to forget the women I had left behind.
