In the last 15 years the participation rate of women has significantly grown in Latin American politics. Experts think the gender equality programs, and the introduction of female participation quotas contributed to this change. The essay aims to provide an overview of the Latin American political arena in the 21st century. The first chapter examines the theoretical background of the question. Female politicians play a significant role in the democratization of Latin America, so the essay describes their political views and instruments. Female political engagement essentially differs from men`s, therefore this chapter tents to analyse their new methods, too. The second chapter includes case studies. Dilma Rousseff former president of Brazil, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner former president of Argentina and Michelle Bachelet president of Chile give us the best examples how female politicians have gained significance in the Latin American region. Last but not least the study evaluates the results already achieved, examines the future tendencies and offers examples of instruments in favour of democracy.
