There is no gainsaying that women play enviable roles in every facet of society. The attempt by some cultures to relegate women to the background is extremely disturbing. Almost all progressive societies have well documented stories regarding the contributions women have made to their development. More than just playing their roles in procreation and general care, women must equally be offered the opportunity to move outside of their traditional sphere to the political arena from the local, national and to the global level. Governance and politics are ubiquitous and very important for all members of society and women are no exception. If the desire to build descent societies which offer equality of opportunities for everyone is to succeed, women must participate in local governance which is critical to local, national and international development. The male dominance in the local assemblies must give way to balanced membership for productive contributions.
