The history of civilization has been influenced by sin, thus distorting the principles God established for women and their role in this world. A summary of Scripture establishing God's standard for women followed by the example of the virtuous woman in Prov 31:10-31 introduces Women Who Shaped the World. Part one, ""Women Who Birthed a Nation,"" features Sarah and Rebekah. Part two, ""Women of a Chosen People,"" focuses on the lives of Miriam and Rahab. Part three highlights ""Women of Courage in Adversity"" and addresses the lives of Deborah, Ruth, Naomi, and Hannah. Part four, ""Women Who Walked with Jesus,"" tells the stories of three Marys and Martha. The first is the story of the mother of Jesus. The second is the story of Mary and Martha. Rounding out the section is the story of Mary Magdalene. Part five is ""Women Who Built a Church."" The three women in this section are Priscilla, Dorcas, and Lydia. Each woman had a character trait that defined the type of person she was. There is some narrative giving context to the trait emphasized in the chapter. These women were not perfect, struggled with sin, and suffered difficult circumstances, but they were also women of faith.
