A "Must-Have" Classic for Both Beginning and Veteran Carvers Celebrate the natural beauty of majestic animals in carvings made from the artistic patterns of Mary Duke Guldan, a longtime columnist for the National Wood Carvers Association and Chip Chats magazine. These wonderfully accurate patterns give you: - Lifelike dimensions with top, side, back, and front views - Cutaway drawings that illustrate the shapes of the animals at various levels - Detailed shading techniques - Wood grain direction - Insightful tips on carving difficult areas like antlers, hooves, nostrils, and fur - The ability to use common woods as they allow you to build up a piece from 1" lumber for stability. The 16 projects in Woodcarver's Workbook include step-by-step instructions as well as expert advice on tools, techniques, painting, staining, and sealing. You'll learn to carve dramatic freestanding figures that bring animals like bears, wolves, cougars, whitetail buck, moose, and more to life. With the addition of a suitable background, any of the pattern views can also be carved in relief. The author suggests creative ways to vary the poses of the animals and adapt her patterns for gun racks, ornamental moldings, and decorative mantelpieces. "Best woodcarving pattern book I have seen in my 40 years as a carver!" - Ed Gallenstein, President of the National Woodcarvers Association
