Woody plants diversity and structure on large termitaria and woodland matrices were determined in Chivero, Zimbabwe, for Game Park, Farm and Bird Sanctuary. Data collected for plants included stem circumference, height, canopy depth and long and short diameters. One hundred and six woody plant species were recorded. Eighty seven and seventy four woody plant species were recorded on termitaria and woodland matrices respectively. Thirty one and eighteen woody plant species occurred exclusively on termitaria and woodland matrices respectively. No significant difference (p0.05) was recorded in plant structure on termitaria and woodland matrices. Significant differences (p0.05) in canopy volumes, basal areas and density of plants per hectare were recorded in woodland matrices and termitaria. Species diversity was significant (p0.05) for Farm and Bird Sanctuary termitaria. Termitaria had different species richness and species abundances attributed to different levels of herbivore disturbance. Termitaria can be used as early indicators of woody plant species loss in areas with large herbivores using woody plants indicator species.
