This book explores representations of Indian women s workplaces in contemporary South Indian writing, through the lens of literary and cultural scholars, feminist geographers, postcolonial critics, sociologists and anthropologists. A study of these representations enables us to understand the contentious nature of space, the gender, class, and caste relations that operate within it, and its potential to be both oppressive and liberating.
