Autorenporträt
Robert Young has been a lifelong rally enthusiast, having been captivated by the radio reports of the Monte Carlo Rally in the 60s by the BBC’s Raymond Baxter. Once bitten, he was determined to compete in rallies himself and bought his first Cooper S rally car (which he still owns) in 1969. This he used on numerous club rallies until it became obvious to him he was neither fast enough nor wealthy enough to carry on in the driving seat. So began a long history as a road rally navigator, at which he became very proficient, competing in many Motoring News Rallies. Stage rallying soon beckoned and with that he won the RallySport Championship. With the aspiration of owning a works Mini, he built a works replica from his old rally car and this was to follow by obtaining the remains of a works Mini which he built back to its original works condition. His knowledge of works Minis meant he was the logical candidate when the Mini Cooper Register was seeking a new ex-works Mini registrar, a post he has held for the past twenty years.
