World of Today: Modern Events in Global History and Their Impact on Contemporary Times presents students with a carefully selected collection of readings that highlight major diplomatic events in global history during the 20th and 21st centuries. The anthology emphasizes the dynamic nature of history, demonstrating how it is composed of the constant flow, clash, and making of ideas, people, and events. Throughout the book, students are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and ultimately, develop a more informed understanding of the events that led us to our current state. Over the course of eight distinct sections, students read about America's arrival as a global power, American involvement in the Great War and World War II, and the ongoing ideological divide separating Russia from the capitalist West. Readings explore the purposeful remembering and forgetting of women who served in war, bringing Vietnam into the American living room, the military-industrial complex, and the current refugee crisis. World of Today is an enriching collection of scholarly readings that is an ideal supplementary resource for courses in American and world history, as well as courses in international affairs. Rose E.
