This book brings out the world record of various predatory insects and their role in pestiferous insect management in a safer manner. The main focus of the book is to address the ecological and environmentally safe methods of managing pests of various crops. The utilization of various types of chemical pesticides for our crop protection and food production leads to environmental concerns and health hazards to plants and animals. This book mainly focuses on the distribution and diversity of various predatory insects in different crops. It also sellout the bionomics, biological control potential at a laboratory, controlled fields and natural conditions. Moreover, mass production technology and environmental safety aspects are also highlighted in various chapters. This book is of interest and useful to undergraduates, post-graduates, research scholars and doctoral candidates, extension workers, and agricultural professionals, and also a valuable source of reference to the relevant researchers and students in the region.
Kitherian Sahayaraj earned his M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., and PGDCA degrees at Madurai Kamaraj University in India. He received his D.Sc. in the field of Applied Entomology from the University of Madras in 2017. Dr. Sahayaraj has over three decades of entomology-related teaching, research, and management expertise. His team's strategic research efforts have received recognition at both the national and international levels, as evidenced by the significant number of publications (>220) in top-tier peer-reviewed journals. He has held positions as Editor or Associate Editor for more than 13 reputable peer-reviewed publications, including Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Biopesticides. He has worked as a journal reviewer for 48 publications. He was involved in the writing and editing of eight books on entomology. He was honored by numerous national and international organizations throughout his career. He received fellowships from the National Academy of Biological Sciences, Advanced Zoological Research, Society for Biocontrol Advancement, Society for Applied Biotechnology, Royal Entomological Society of London, Entomological Society of India, Society of Sciences, and Zoological Society of India. Errol Hassan received a PhD and a Dipl. Eng from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Ankara. After graduating, he worked for the American Aid Office in Ankara, Turkey, as an agricultural liaison officer for two years. He then returned to Cyprus in 1960 and spent the next two years teaching agriculture in a Turkish high school. He received a scholarship from the Federal Republic of Germany in 1962 and from the Forest Zoological Institute of the University of Gottingen in 1964 to further his education and research endeavors. He was employed in 1967 by The Australian External Territories Department's Agriculture and Fisheries department as an entomologist. Up until 1973, he held the positions of senior lecturer and lecturer at the University of Papua New Guinea. The study concentrated on cocoa, vegetable, and spice pest insects. He worked at the University of Queensland from 1973 to 2022. His favorite subjects to teach include entomology, applied entomology, plant protection, IPM, and biological control. He was working with PhD and MA students and wrote a book chapter and many scholarly articles.
