Know the saying, "There's a book in each of us?" Truly, we have thousands of stories that inform and define our lives. When we utilize them, they enliven our characters and settings, help us plumb deeper into the core of our works, and give readers that added emotional "juice" that keeps the pages turning. How do we our stories and put them to use in all of our writing, whether novels or memoirs, journalism or song lyrics, poetry, essays or journals? In Writes of Life: Using Personal Experiences in Everything You Write, Robert Yehling celebrates 40 years as a professional journalist, editor, teacher, and author by opening us to our own stories and integrating them in our writing. The key? Accessing our senses, dreams, relationships, travels, feelings, gains and losses, perspectives, likes and dislikes-and threading them into our work. Probing questions and more than 50 writing exercises further help draw out our Writes of Life.
