È professore presso l'Università statale di Maranhão e leader del GEPUS (Gruppo di ricerca sull'insegnamento della geografia, la povertà urbana e la segregazione). Attualmente si occupa di ricerca sulle abitazioni nelle aree urbane, sulla povertà urbana e sulle tecnologie applicate all'insegnamento della geografia.
