The dialogue in the book is deliberately in the manner of the way people often talk in these areas and the dialogue of the aboriginal people who have been on this land since ancient times and who ponder their past history within what they call the "dream-time". Wundarra-Bilyana, Eagle of the Nullarbor as a work of fiction introduces the wedge-tailed eagle as a way of introducing this part of the world and a concept of life from a different perspective, together with ideas about survival, common-sense and the need for personal discipline, respect and dignity. The book is aimed at all age groups from the young through to the elderly. It is a pleasant natural story that nurtures a situational awareness of life, a little mystique, survival of life and the aerodynamics of flight.
Autorenporträt
Douglas Whitfield has written many aviation magazine articles and established as a writer with his first aviation book Call of the Kyeema. He holds tertiary qualifications in flying--both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters--air traffic control, search and rescue, and airport management. Douglas has been flying for over fifty years and fully understands weather phenomena, air safety, aerodynamics and the remote Australian environment, where he has spent a great deal of his life. He is also a former army and air force officer and this service has given him excellent experience in the need for survival skills and personal discipline in order to appreciate life. His account of Wundarra-Bilyana is testimony to his experience, interest and knowledge of the subject.
