Braddon s personal life was also colorful; she had a long relationship with her publisher, John Maxwell, whom she married in 1874. She had two children, both of whom also pursued literary careers. Braddon s influence on Victorian fiction was significant, and her works were admired for their compelling plots and ability to explore darker aspects of human nature, often challenging the moral and social codes of her time.
