It implements the xICE encryption algorithm. From the time of its launch xICE Desktop has been the target of piracy due to faulty DRM provided by Softwrap Limited. This flaw was the subject of a recent lawsuit filed by the program''s author on April 29, 2007. The lawsuit claimed $1.2M in damages due to a fault in Softwrap''s DRM software acknowledged by Softwrap''s VP of Business Development. The lawsuit was dismissed on August 17, 2007 by Judge Marsha J. Pechman, who upheld the arbitration clause in the contract between the developer and Softwrap, which stated that claims arising out of the use of Softwrap''s DRM were to be arbitrated in London under the WIPO Expedited Arbitration Rules.
