It launched at 7:30am on 29 May 2009. Telecom advertises 7.2Mb/s USB devices for mobile broadband for use on the XT Mobile network, as well as the Sony Ericsson W995, an exclusive launch product for the XT network. On launch day Telecom advertised 14.4Mb/s as available, however 3Mb/s is a realistic speed to expect for HSPA devices with roughly 1Mb/s upload.
