In September 1945, after the surrender of Japan, XXIV Corps moved to Korea, where it remained on occupation duty until its deactivation on January 25, 1949. XXIV Corps was re-activated on August 15, 1968, at Fort Hood, Texas, to replace the "Provisional Corps Vietnam," a temporary headquarters created March 10, 1968 during the Tet Offensive.
