Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Yankee Dougal was a one-off Viz character, appearing in a self-named full-page strip. He is a young blond English boy named Dougal Dandy, apparently not yet a teen, who desires to emulate Americans in every way possible. He pesters the local dentist to give him orthodontic braces (a typical rite of passage for American teenagers but a rarity in Britain), and he alienates other English boys his own age by insisting on playing American sports rather than home-grown ones. He is eventually awarded American citizenship, and as a result is immediately drafted into the US Army. Yankee Dougal had strong potential as a vehicle for satirising America and Americans, but Viz has never had any difficulty satirising those targets elsewhere in the magazine ... and Yankee Dougal did not seem inclined to engage in the extreme violence, scatology or sexual humour which has made so many other Viz characters popular.
