Candidaemia is a serious and fatal infection without early treatment. This is a retrospective study involving hospitalized patients with blood cultures sent to the laboratory. During the year 2019, out of a total of 1600 samples received, 33 presented a positive culture (2%). The average age of the patients is 50 years with extremes from 9 days to 83 years. The male sex (82%) was more affected with an M/F sex ratio equal to 4.5. The sensitivity of the direct examination was 24%. The species isolated were Candida albicans (58%), C. tropicalis (15%), C. glabrata (12%), C. parapsilosis (12%) and C. lusitaniae (3%). All isolated Candida yeasts were sensitive to Amphotericin B and Voriconazole. Sensitivity to Fluconazole, Flucytosine and Caspofungin was 97% for each molecule. Sensitivity to Micafungin was 85%. Four out of 7 patients (57%) had antigenemia and/or questionable to positive antibody levels. The mycological diagnosis of candidemia is of great interest for the isolation of the Candida species involved and the study of sensitivity to antifungal agents.
