High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Yehuda Elkana ( 1934 in Yugoslavia named Yehuda Bauer) is a historian and philosopher of science. After studying physics, mathematics and the history of science he wrote his Ph.D. on "The Emergence of the Energy Concept" in 1968. He taught history and theory of science at Harvard University and Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Until 1991 he was director of the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute. Since 1978 he has been a permanent fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin (Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin). From 1995 to 1999 he was professor for the Theory of Science at ETH Zürich. From 1999 to 2009 he was president of Central European University in Budapest. Elkana is a corresponding member of the International Academy for the History of Science as well as member of the board of advisors of the Collegium Helveticum. He is co-founder and editor of the scientic journal Science in Context.
