The Yellow Sea Cup, (formerly known as the China Pub Company Yellow Sea Cup) is an annual rugby union competition currently involving clubs from four cities in China and South Korea. The competition was launched in 2005 by Simon Drakeford, Ted Gray and Mark Thomas. It is one of the most prestigious trophies in the sport. Yellow Sea Cup is sponsored by China Pub Company (it is also known as CPC YSC because of alcohol advertising restrictions). In total, 5 teams contest the league. The tournament is held from April to November, with various stages scheduled around domestic club competitions. There were plans to start 2nd division from year 2010, but the idea was abandoned due to lack of sponsorship. The 2009 tournament was won by Shanghai''s Hairy Crabs, who beat Devils of Beijing in Beijing 29-16 to retain the cup they won against the same team in 2008. The Shanghai Hairy Crabs have been the most successful team, winning the competition twice and now remain unbeaten for two and a half years both home and away.
