Its status as a county-equivalent was dissolved on November 7, 1997, and its territory apportioned between its two adjacent counties within Montana: Gallatin County and Park County. Gallatin County received 256.81 km² (99.155 sq mi) of land area and 0.309 km² (0.119 sq mi) of water area, whereas Park County received 378.73 km² (146.229 sq mi) of land area and 1.575 km² (0.608 sq mi) of water area. The geographies transferred are now designated by the United States Census Bureau as Census Tract 14 in Gallatin County, and as Census Tract 6 in Park County. Its status as part of Yellowstone National Park, however, has not been changed through this transfer. In the 1990 census, the last one before the transfer, the territory had a population of 52 persons. In the 2000 census, after the transfer, the population had grown to 61 persons.
