High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Yendi is a town in the northeastern quadrant of Ghana in the Dagbon territory. As of 2000, it has a population of 40,336 people. Yendi is the traditional capital of the Dagbon Kingdom with the Ya Na as the Overlord. The people of Dagbon are called Dagombas or Dagbamba. The Dagombas are unique to Ghana. Recently, Yendi has been primarily known for the conflict that has taken place there over the succession of the King of the Dagomba between the clans of the Abudu and the Andani. These two clans were involved in a violent conflict in Yendi in March 2002. This episode took the lives of at least 40 people in the town and culminated in the gruesome killing of a long-serving king, Ya Na Yakubu Andani. After this incident, the government at Accra imposed a curfew on Yendi and the biggest neighboring city, Tamale. The curfew has since been lifted and life has returned to normal.
